The next Medina County Port Authority Meeting/Medina County Fiber Network Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1st at 8:00 am.  The meeting will be held at the Medina County Economic Development Coporation office at 144 N. Broadway Street, Balcony Room B, Medina, OH.

Russ Schabel Named to Port Authority Board of Directors

Russ Schabel was appointed by the Medina County Commissioners to serve a four-year term beginning January, 2012.  Russ is Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors at Brunswick headquartered The Philpott Rubber Company, which has provided custom molded plastic and rubber parts to customers in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors since its founding in 1889.

Construction Underway on Medina County Fiber Network
The construction of the Medina County Fiber Network began in May in the Medina-Akron corridor on Route 18 and in the Brunswick Industrial Park.  Permits for underground construction in other segments of the network have been submitted to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and various municipalities.   Concurrently, the Medina County Port Authority is working with utility companies to finalize pole attachment agreements.  “Since the groundbreaking ceremony on March 11, I am very encouraged by the progress in the construction timeline,” said Bethany Dentler, Executive Director of the Medina County Economic Development Corporation.

Innovation Park  "The  21st  Century  Premier  Business  Location" Innovation Park is planned as the 21st Century premier business location designed to retain and provide employment for a technologically trained workforce. The park is home to the Medina County University Center (MCUC) in partnership with the University of Akron. MCUC serves the Medina County population and provides valuable workforce training tailored to meet the needs of local and regional employers. Currently 60.42 acres of land are available for sale. Sites range in size from 3 acres up to 20.84 acres. The Offering CB Richard Ellis has been retained by the Medina County Board of Commissioners and the Medina County Port Authority as the exclusive marketing agent for the disposition of the parcels in the park, located in Lafayette Township, Ohio at the northwest corner of Lake and Wedgewood Roads. The entire site has 60.42 acres available; it is zoned as a Planned Unit Development District. Innovation Park further plans to attract technology companies that can promote opportunities for the creation of new products and processes resulting in new jobs and fostering economic prosperity. The total cost to ready the park and build the University Center was approximately $10.6 million. Medina County was awarded a $1 million grant from the Ohio Department of Development under the 2004 Research Park Roadwork Infrastructure Assistance Fund. These funds were used to offset costs associated with construction of public roadways by the Medina County Transportation Improvement District in the park and MCUC. This award was made possible through Ohio's Third Frontier Initiative which is focused upon creating and expanding high-tech research capabilities and promoting start-up companies thereby creating high-wage jobs. This successful step in the building of the Innovation Park and MCUC is due to the combined efforts and cooperation of the Board of County Commissioners and the Medina County Port Authority with the University of Akron, the University Taskforce and other local and state officials.
