The next Medina County Port Authority Meeting/Medina County Fiber Network Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, February 1st at 8:00 am.  The meeting will be held at the Medina County Economic Development Coporation office at 144 N. Broadway Street, Balcony Room B, Medina, OH.

Russ Schabel Named to Port Authority Board of Directors

Russ Schabel was appointed by the Medina County Commissioners to serve a four-year term beginning January, 2012.  Russ is Chief Financial Officer and member of the Board of Directors at Brunswick headquartered The Philpott Rubber Company, which has provided custom molded plastic and rubber parts to customers in the industrial, commercial and retail sectors since its founding in 1889.

Construction Underway on Medina County Fiber Network
The construction of the Medina County Fiber Network began in May in the Medina-Akron corridor on Route 18 and in the Brunswick Industrial Park.  Permits for underground construction in other segments of the network have been submitted to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and various municipalities.   Concurrently, the Medina County Port Authority is working with utility companies to finalize pole attachment agreements.  “Since the groundbreaking ceremony on March 11, I am very encouraged by the progress in the construction timeline,” said Bethany Dentler, Executive Director of the Medina County Economic Development Corporation.

Medina County Fiber Network The Medina County Port Authority’s (MCPA) fiber optic cable network consists of 151 miles of dark fiber throughout Medina County, connecting all major metropolitan areas in the County with 144 strands of dark fiber and providing connectivity to the existing fiber network in the City of Wadsworth and fiber networks in Cuyahoga and Summit Counties.  The Medina County Fiber Network (MCFN) will create a high bandwidth, neutral platform that will enable governmental subdivisions and agencies, libraries, schools, hospitals and medical facilities, businesses and industry to gain broadband connectivity on advantageous terms.  The MCPA will effectively create an e-Corridor linking the participants, not only to one another, but also to carrier facilities and carriers throughout the region and to serve as a gateway to alternative services and networks.  MCPA will provide broadband transportation services on the network, and does not intend to provide services on the network that would compete with local service providers.  Network neutrality is a critical component of the fiber ring, in order to encourage sustainable adoption of broadband service throughout the county.   Construction Schedule •    Construction by OneCommunity began in October 2010 with pre-engineering, walk-outs and final route design •    18 month construction build scheduled for completion by Q3 2012 •    First customers scheduled to have network access by Q4 2011 Financing •    $14,435,000 in Recovery Zone Bonds issued by Medina County Port Authority in December 2010, to be repaid within 20 years by user fees •    Bond Reserve Fund backed by Medina County, Cities of Brunswick, Medina and Wadsworth, Villages of Seville and Westfield Center, and Cascade Capital Corporation •    MCFN to receive $1.6 million in federal broadband grant funds awarded as part of OneCommunity’s $44 million Comprehensive Community Infrastructure grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Bond Offering Overview The Medina County Port Authority issued $14.4 million in Recovery Zone Bonds in December 2010.  The following municipalities entered into agreements to back the bond reserve fund: Brunswick City    Village of Seville Medina City Wadsworth City Village of Westfield Center Cascade Capital Corporation Levels of Service Metro Area Network (MAN) Options MAN (10 Mbps) MAN (100 Mbps) MAN (1 Gbps) MAN (10 Gbps) MAN (40 Gbps) MAN Gateway Cross Connect Dark Fiber Options Dark Fiber (Metro Ring) Dark Fiber Metro Access Dark Fiber (PT-to-PT) Dark Fiber (Regional Capacity) For pricing information, contact Rich Dugger at OneCommunity, 216-923-2290 or rich.dugger@community.org Board Members of the Medina County Port Authority: Ron Paydo, Chair Bill Frantz, Vice Chair Jim Gerspacher, Secretary Todd Gerber Bob Kenderes Dean Harris Laurie B.
